Cockroaches are a range of species of the order Blattaria or Blattodea. There is approximately 4,500 species known, however there is only about 30 associated with human habitations. Most Australians have experienced a cockroach or two!
Cockroaches can live almost a month without food, and can hold their breath for up to 40 minutes! They can prove to be difficult to catch, due to their fast reflexes.
Without the correct equipment, it is difficult to eradicate cockroaches. Luckily, we have that equipment!
Another common pest in Australian homes is the spider. Of the order Araneae, spiders have eight legs, and fangs that inject venom.
There are approximately 40,000 different species of spiders. Common Australian spiders include redbacks, huntsman, funnel web, cross, orb, wolf, white-tailed, sac, mouse, jumping, and the famous 'daddy-long-legs'.
Though no deaths have been caused in Australia by spiders in the last 30 years (due to the supply of antivenom) - spider bites are not a pleasant experience!
